Peace and seclusion are assured at this magnificent property situated on a 5.5 acre private estate, at the western end of the island. From its position on a point, it benefits from views over the sea and neighbouring islands, as well as year-round cooling breezes over its terraces and pool area. It is also just a 600 yard walk through the grounds to the white sand beach at Smugglers’ Cove, one of Tortola’s most beautiful beaches.
Originally an 18th century gunpowder store, the current estate was built in 1969, and recently completely renovated throughout to a very high standard. Another pathway through the grounds will bring you to a private jetty, perfect for snorkelling and swimming. A further nature trail leads up to the very top of the estate, once used as a cannon emplacement which fired out to sea at pirate ships venturing too near the coastline, and now a vantage point with superb sea views over Smugglers’ Cove and the islands of Great Thatch and Jost Van Dyke. This is an idyllic spot for cocktails at sunset.
The accommodation comprises a Main House with two bedrooms and a Guest Pavilion with three more bedrooms and a study (with computer and broadband internet access). The living area, in the Main House, is equipped with cable TV, DVD and Bose surround sound system, Bose CD player with iPod connection, DVD movie collection, books and games. The custom-built kitchen is equipped with all stainless steel appliances and a dishwasher, and opens out to a covered living/dining terrace very comfortably furnished, and with built-in gas barbecue. The Bose surround-sound system and wireless internet extend out to the terrace, and there are views from here to the beach at Smugglers’ Cove. Steps lead to an infinity-edge pool (21’ by 12’, low chemical) with sun deck and outdoor shower. A stone walkway leads to the Guest Pavilion. Access to the property is by electronic gates and there is a safe in the villa for valuables.
The local marina of Soper’s Hole is a short drive away, and the staff at the villa will be delighted to organize private power boat rentals or captained day trips for those who want to explore the quiet secluded bays and neighbouring islands. With the added luxury of an in-house chef, guests can totally relax and enjoy the magical natural beauty and peaceful surroundings.
