This stunning and spacious property sits amidst 2 hectares of land planted with 180 olive trees. From a long awning-covered terrace in front of the sitting room, dining room and master bedroom, you can enjoy views over a field of lavender (a feast for the eyes between February and April) towards the castle of Evoramonte, a small historic village on top of a hill about 14km away. With no immediate neighbours, this is a place to just be and relax. But there is plenty to see and do if you find the energy to get out and about. The property is fairly close to Evora, a magnificent town and Unesco World Heritage Site, rich in history and culture – churches, convents, palaces, roman temples and summer concerts. Also not to be missed are the villages of Monsaraz, for its narrow streets and houses within castle walls surrounded by an open landscape; Arraiolos, which also has a medieval castle but is best known for its hand-embroidered carpets with naïve designs of plants and hunting animals; or Vila Viçosa and its royal palace, which dates back to the 1500s. The Alentejo is one of the main wine regions of Portugal and many of the wineries welcome visitors.

The main access into the property is via an attractive enclosed courtyard formally laid out with herbs and fruit trees; this in turn leads to the swimming pool (8 x 4 m,1.5 m deep), which has a covered terrace and can be safely locked to children. (Please note: the property is not particularly suitable for families with toddlers as there are different garden levels near the swimming pool, and the pool steps are very deep.)

The building itself is typical of the region, with thick walls, painted white with blue borders and dark red shutters, terracotta tiled floors and vaulted ceilings. The eye-catching interiors are decorated with modern art and quirky objects, a play on colours, light and space. The wide hallway entry into the villa gives access to all the other divisions. The main reception room is very spacious (90 sq m), and has been set up as two separate sitting areas (one around the wide, open fireplace) and an office, opening onto a long front terrace set up for dining or lounging outdoors. The dining room also opens onto the long front terrace and has sliding doors to the kitchen, which in turn has a separate service door to the exterior and laundry room. There is one Master bedroom suite, and two double rooms with twin beds, each with its own bathroom. A welcome hamper is included in the rental price; a baby cot and high chair are available on request. For winter rentals, there is central heating, and logs for the fire place (supplement applies). The property is equipped with an alarm system linked to the local military police office 1.5km away.
