Located amidst the rolling plains of hte unspoilt Alentejo region, Alfanges is a beautifully restored period country house, combining the best of Portugal's past with all the comfort of modern day living. It is set within a working farm with 90 hectares of grazing land, planted with cork oaks and olive trees. It offers spacious accommodation for up to 10 adults and 5 children, with great outdoor areas, making it ideally suited for family holidays. The property is only 20 minutes drive from the UNESCO Heritage Site of Évora, which has a historical past dating back to the Romans. Alfanges offers a high level of service and the staff here will arrange for a cook to cater for guests, for wine tasting or cultural visits, horseriding or boating on the Alqueva Dam, or for a personalized spa treatment. The property is is an ideal base to experience the Alentejo region with its rich traditions and gastronomy at its best!

The accommodation is spread over two buildings and there are six double bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom (one of these is very large and includes a kitchenette) and a triple children's room. An entertainment liviing area includes a 50 inch flat screen TV, with movies and sports channels, and there is a second TV with DVD player, and library of children's DVDs in the siitting room. There is also a covered summer room equipped with table football and table tennis, and especially for children, a tree house and a trampoline. At a level down from the garden and totally safe for children as it is accessed through a gate, the large black mosaic and slate swimming pool (8 x 15 meters with steps) is surrounded by a large teak deck. To one side there is a shaded seating area and bar, while on the other sisde are the changing room, WC, shower and a small twin bedroom (ideal for an extra couple of guests).

Typical of the local architecture, the original thick stone walls dating back to the 1800’s, keep the property cool in the summer, while large fireplaces warm it up in the winter months. Central heating and air conditioning (included in the rental price) are available in the double bedrooms and kitchen, while other rooms have ceiling fans. All the bedrooms have one window fitted with mosquito netting, so that it can be left open all night long. There is a baby cot and high chair available, and also covered parking at the property. Minimum rental period at this property 5 nights in June, July and August, and 3 nights at other times of year, except Christmas/New Year and Easter when the minimum rental period is one week.

Very spacious kitchen (with central breakfast table, gas hob/oven, microwave, kettle, coffee machine, toaster, dishwasher),service door and terrace to one side and a separate sitting area (lower level) to the other side, then opening onto an outdoor decked dining terrace with awning. Larder and laundry rooms (with washing machine, dryer and fridge freezer).

First Floor
Triple children's bedroom with bunks plus one extra single bed, sharing a hallway with a double bedroom with en-suite shower room. Master bedroom with en-suite bathroom (with separate shower) opens to a private sun terrace.

Open plan family room (double bed, plus 2 single beds for children) with sitting area, kitchenette (microwave, double electric plates, fridge and dining table) and bathroom (sunken bath/hand held shower). 2 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Small balcony.

The Pool Suite
Twin bedroom, shower room, separate WC and dressing room.
Staff
Pool and Garden maintenance included. Maid Service included 5 hours a day x 7 days a week. Cook and babysitting on request. A welcome Portuguese dinner with local wines (left ready for your first night), plus a few basic food items, are included in the rental price. A choice of local wines is available for guests at extra cost. Guests are also welcome to pick whatever is growing in the kitchen garden at no extra cost.
