Willowbrook is a grown-up, sophisticated version of the classic A-frame ski lodge, a perfect mix of mountain and modern living, where sleeping and dining wings spread out from a lofty central living space. There are five bedrooms in the main house, while a separate structure has a studio apartment and a second two-car garage. The kitchen is completely open to the dining and living areas, and is a pleasure to cook in, with plenty of stone-topped counter space, high-quality appliances and custom wood cupboards.
The living room is the heart of the house. A handsome, wood-burning, stacked stone fireplace faces a grouping of russet leather couches and an armchair. Double glass doors open to the wide, terraced wood deck; the deck has a deep hot tub – perfect for after-ski relaxation or late-night stargazing.
Upstairs, an airy, open loft hangs above the living room. The loft is a wonderful space with a wrap-around red leather couch and a wide-screen TV, removed from and yet connected to the life of the house. A spacious landing serves as transition between the loft and stairs, and has a comfortable reading area and two twin beds. At the other end of the landing is a queen guest room and private bath.
The master bedroom is set at the end of the sleeping wing on the ground floor. A hallway leads to large closets and the master bath, roomy and luxurious, where a deep soaking tub, double sinks and a separate shower, tiled in stone, await.
Two more simple, comfortable, carpeted guest bedrooms – and the bath they share between them – are opposite the master. In one, twin beds flank a bedside table and a pretty lamp; in the other, a corner room, a queen bed with iron bed frame is steeped in light from the windows.
Behind Willowbrook, the bright, clean studio apartment is right above a garage. The little apartment is a great boon for overflow guests, and can sleep up to six people. A snug bedroom has two twin beds, side by side; and the main space of the apartment holds two queens, each set in its own windowed alcove. A red leather sofa and two armchairs face a flat screen TV; there is a workspace, a small dining area and a galley kitchen.
Willowbrook, quiet, spacious and private, is just steps off the Village Road and the winding bike path that leads down to Wilson – home of local markets and innovative restaurants. Jackson Hole’s fabulous network of mountain bike trails is quickly accessible from Willowbrook; and the Snake River is only a five-minute ride away. Anglers find blue ribbon fishing in the Snake, while children paint rocks and play in the cool water and teens ride their inner tubes. In winter, a five-minute drive gets you to the ski slopes and all the activities of Teton Village. Willowbrook makes an ideal home base for a glorious Jackson Hole vacation.
