Shooting Star Cabin 6705 is a four-bedroom house on the south eastern edge of Teton Village’s Shooting Star community. All around is the long spread of the valley floor, the golf course and the high coronet of mountains. To the west, trails braid down the ski slopes, and next to the house is a pond that is home to trumpeter swans and reflections of the ever-changing sky. Stone, board-and-batten and traditional chinked log construction make Shooting Star Cabin 6705 feel authentic and right in its Jackson Hole setting; the house draws on a long Western tradition of using native materials to craft a robust and fire lit haven.
The living, dining and kitchen areas all share one high-ceilinged space, where wide windows on three sides look out to the pond, a neighbour’s house, and the golf course. It is a comfortable and convivial gathering place. A raised, wood-burning fireplace is set in a wall of stone and a widescreen TV is mounted above it; in the evening, shadows from the wood fire dance around the room. A pair of deep leather armchairs and two couches stands under the peaked ceiling. A rough wood chandelier hangs like a star over the polished dining table, and glass doors on either side of the room open to stone terraces.
A breakfast bar separates the kitchen from the dining room. The kitchen cupboards, handcrafted from rustic barn wood, contrast nicely with the gleaming Viking range and the Subzero refrigerators. There is a wine cooler, a small step in pantry, and a stone-topped centre island with a prep sink. A full complement of good quality china, glasses and appliances are ready for use, and from the kitchen you can see the fireplace, the television and the tremendous rocky geography beyond the windows.
Shooting Star Cabin 6705 has four bedrooms. The master is on the ground floor, in a private wing at the southern end of the house, connected to the foyer by a glass-walled corridor. In the quiet, carpeted bedroom, windows on three sides frame the pond, the mountains and the golf course; the king bed faces a gas fireplace and a TV. A hallway leads to a walk-in closet and the wood-panelled master bath, where dark wood cabinets hold dual sinks and linen cupboards. There is a private water closet in the master bath, a deep soaking tub and a separate shower.
A landing waits at the top of the stairs. During the day, a flat-screen TV, a game table and vivid vintage posters on the wall make it a prime hang-out spot; but when the full-size sofa is pulled out the landing becomes a sleeping loft. The view from the sofa bed is a long, heady look up to the top of the ski mountain.
A door on the landing opens to a carpeted guest room, with a queen size bed, a dresser with antler pulls, a reading chair and a private bathroom with a shower, dual vanities and a water closet. From the landing, a dramatic glass “bridge” leads to two more bedrooms. The first is a wonderful bunkroom tailor-made for teens or children. Stylish rustic bunk beds and a matching twin bed seem to have been built from the very boards used in the walls of the house. The bunkroom’s private bath has a shower/tub combination, two sinks and a separate toilet.
The bunkroom opens to a second landing at the rear of the house, and here, a large, sunlit suite waits, with an upholstered king bed, a desk and a spacious sitting area. Two smart leather armchairs flank a red sleeper sofa, and the window holds a wide view of the mountains. There is a small refreshment area, with an under-counter refrigerator, and a private bath with a shower/tub combination.
Shooting Star Cabin 6705 has a delightful stone terrace off of the living room; tucked into the south eastern corner of the house and bordered by a low stone wall, with unobstructed views across the valley. The terrace is furnished with a dining table, comfortable chairs, a gas grill, and a hot tub set into a stone surround. Shooting Star Cabin 6705 is an exceptional house, sited as it is on the brink of the golf course and pond: great wide open lands to one side, and Teton Village – with all its restaurants, shops, nightlife and, of course, ski slopes – to the other, just a short walk away. Wilderness and civilization – the best of both Jackson Hole worlds – are the next-door neighbours of Shooting Star Cabin 6705.
