This beautiful country house, originally an ancient monastery dating back to the 12th century, has been sympathetically restored to provide luxurious and comfortable accommodation. It is situated in the countryside in the Upper Tiber valley, just off the main road which runs between Umbertide and Città di Castello and within walking distance of the village of Calzolaro. Lake Trasimeno is 35 kms to the south-west and the main tourist towns of Assisi, Perugia, Cortona, Todi, Orvieto, Deruta and Spoleto are all within 1 ½ hours drive. Even closer, there are many lesser known, but beautiful medieval hilltop towns and renaissance art treasures to discover. For dining out, there at are least 40 trattorias, pizzerias and restaurants within a 15 minute drive.
The property is located just off a very quiet and easily accessible flat country road, leading from Cortona to Trestina, with the Seano River running alongside. There are stunning views from the beautiful gardens, filled with rosemary, lavender and thyme, acacia and rose bushes, of the surrounding fields and oak woodlands. A swimming pool (6 x 12m, eco-friendly filtering system), with furnished sun terrace surround is shared with the estate’s cottage which is also available for rent. A small stream meanders through the garden and there is also private chapel, which can be used by guests, and suitable for weddings and other special occasions. Together with the cottage the property can accommodate up to 24 people.
Furnished to the highest standard, there is terracotta flooring throughout, ancient oak and chestnut ceiling beams and antique and hand-painted furniture. There are Aubusson rugs on the floor, collections of art deco silverware and Galle lamps and vases. All the bedrooms are decorated and furnished to a high standard and have en-suite marble bathrooms with hair dryer. Amenities include underfloor heating, electric cooling fans and satellite TV in most bedrooms. There is also an internet facility and a lift for luggage. Out of season, the rooms are also available on a bed and breakfast basis (please enquire for rates). It is the perfect location for a wedding or honeymoon and wedding services can be arranged.
