The quiet and typical little village of Megalochori provides a welcome haven during the summer to the busy tourist attractions of Fira and Oia, yet is only 9 kilometres away from Fira and also within easy reach of Akrotiri and the islands’ beaches. Protected from the Cycladic winds, the traffic free winding lanes lead directly to the village square with its pretty churches and picturesque Venetian bell towers.
The Stone House is a very pretty recently renovated property tucked away in the heart of the village, a 150 metre stroll up a footpath from the village square. The name comes from the exterior of the house which is clad in local volcanic stone. Once a ‘canava’, it was originally used to produce the sweet dessert wine, Vinsanto, which is unique to the island of Santorini. Two cylindrical troughs, once used for distilling the wine, have been preserved to made unusual interior light features.
The house is accessed by an enclosed cobbled courtyard, with private plunge pool (2.7 x 4.2m, depth 1.3m), which can also be used as a Jacuzzi, with four massage jets to one side of the pool. There is an outdoor dining area in the courtyard as well as two pool loungers and an umbrella. The property is perfect for a couple looking for a small, traditional and uniquely Santorini home on the island. Minimum stay at this property is 3 nights. Transfers from/to Santorini port or airport, as well as a rental car are included in the rental. A welcome hamper awaits you on arrival and our local concierge service is available during your stay to advise on what to do, where to eat, and any other information you may require. Meals can also be delivered for breakfasts, light lunches or dinners from a traditional Greek cafe in the main square. Internet use is available from our local office in the centre of Megalochori.
