The Crete Villa Book
Greece
Destination Guide
Crete as a holiday destination offers something for everyone, from beach lovers to archaeology enthusiasts. The rugged beauty of the island’s interior with its mountain peaks, wild ravines and traditional inland villages, contrast with its sandy beaches and luxury resorts on the coast. The most highly developed part of the island for tourists is the northern coast, encompassing the towns of Chania, Rethymnon, Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos. Many of our villas are close to Rethymnon, with its charming old town and Venetian harbour. Its narrow lanes, old mansions, garden courtyards, lively restaurants and bars offer much appeal, and the glorious sandy beach to the east of the town offers watersports and a good choice of tavernas and bars. The villas here are also available for durations of less than a week. Just 7 kilometres from the lively centre of Agios Nikolaos, we are featuring luxury villas at Elounda. These offer the best of both worlds, combining the privacy of a villa with the service of a hotel. Each of these has beautiful sea views and a private swimming pool with Jacuzzi. The picturesque harbour at Agios Nikolaos is great to visit on a summer evenings, when a festive atmosphere prevails with its crowded bars, tavernas and restaurants and street musicians providing entertainment, in a truly magical setting. During the summer months, there are direct charter flights from the U.K. to both Heraklion and Chania, as well as a scheduled British Airways flight to Heraklion, starting in 2005. Alternatively, there is a good choice of daily scheduled flights to Athens, then regular connections with either Olympic or Aegean Airways to Heraklion and Chania. It’s very easy to do a two-centre holiday from Crete, combining a stay here with one of the other Cycladic Islands, for example one of our properties in Santorini, Mykonos or Paros as there are regular ferries from both Rethymnon and Heraklion.
