This impressive 3 storey stone Mas has recently been restored to its former glory by its new owner. It is situated high on a sunny, south facing hillside north-east of the market town of Apt. Its access is via a short unpaved driveway, shared with one other property which is behind Mas St Martin and which has views in the opposite direction. Mas St Martin has the prime views over the valley and wooded slopes towards the Medieval hilltop village of Saignon. The property has a wonderful feeling of total peace and quiet and yet is within easy driving distance of the village of St Martin de Castillon with shops, local épicerie, post office, church, and café and the larger market town of Apt with a large year-round Saturday market. For those familiar with the Luberon region of Provence, this property is set closer to the Grand Luberon Mountains than the Petit Luberon, made so famous by writer Peter Mayle. The Grand Luberon has a charm equal to that of the Petit Luberon but in a more rugged and dramatic way, and the great plus is that it is less crowded during the summer months. It still has charming hilltop villages, good restaurants, lavender fields, dramatic gorges, grand fortresses and magnificent views. The refurbishment has been done with sympathy, retaining the old beamed ceilings, beautiful stone tiled floors and spacious rooms, most with views across the valley towards the Grand Luberon Mountains. The bedroom interiors are a clever mix of traditional and modern Provençal styles and the bathrooms are chic and modern. The master bathroom is enormous and comes complete with a corner Jacuzzi bath and large Italian style shower. The kitchen is practical and well equipped. The owner is an artist and some of her paintings are displayed on the walls. The recently landscaped garden is a Provençal enclave of lavender, local-style stone walls and olive trees. The swimming pool (approx. 12 x 6m, and heated on request) is beside the house and takes full advantage of the lovely views.
