Maison de Charme is in a quiet location, surrounded by 1/3 acre of gardens, and accessed by a private driveway, electric gates and with ample parking. It is only 5 minutes by car from the centre of L’Isle sur la Sorgue where the largest and most well-known antique market is located south of Paris. On Sundays and Thursdays the town has one of the best markets in the area, selling everything from local produce to books, fabric, flowers, jewellery, paintings, pottery and of course antiques. L’Isle sur la Sorgue is a pretty town surrounded by canals crossed by narrow bridges and interspersed with moss-covered water wheels and weirs. Along the sides of the canals there are many restaurants, cafes and icecream shops. From the canals the narrow streets lead, via small squares, to the main square with its Baroque style church and colourful flower stalls.
The very comfortable and traditionally furnished house is set in a raised position with beautiful views of lawns, lavender beds, roses and olive orchards. Beyond the garden the view continues to the distant mountains of Les Alpilles. The dining patio, festooned with flowering wisteria and surrounded by white roses, takes good advantage of the garden vistas. The swimming pool (10 x 5 metres with steps in shallow end) is up some stairs behind the house on a sunny, tiled terrace and surrounded by trees and shrubs.
The traditional terracotta tiled floors throughout and the sympathetic furnishings give this house a cosy feeling. The spacious open plan living room with comfortable white sofas and stone fireplace, the dining room and the study all look out towards the front garden with views. The compact but well equipped kitchen is situated next to the dining room which has French doors leading to the long front patio with a sitting and a dining area. There are also French windows leading to the patio from the living room. A tiled staircase leads from the living room to the first floor with 3 bedrooms furnished in pretty fabrics. All bedrooms have windows overlooking the sunny garden. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and the two other twin bedrooms share a second bathroom. Downstairs there is a cloakroom with an additional toilet. The owner provides a bicycle, 2 sets of golf clubs, table tennis and boules (petanque).
