This totally delightful house is on the outskirts of the charming medieval village of Cabrières d’Avignon, within the Luberon National Park. It is just a short walk to the centre of the village where there is an excellent baker, butcher and grocer and well placed for children to do the early morning croissant and baguette run through the quiet, narrow streets as the village stirs to life. Then it’s back to the house for an alfresco breakfast in a sunny corner of the garden.
The current owners have restored the house beautifully, retaining the original features such as the beamed Provençal ceilings, the large stone fireplace, the uneven stone stairs, tiled floors and the honey-coloured, exposed stone walls which are very much a feature of the whole village. It is set back from the small road, behind high stone walls, and entrance to the property is via two large wooden gates. One gate gives access to the higher part of the garden with a parking area, a fully furnished ‘dependence’ , the pool and terrace. The other gate leads into a nicely landscaped courtyard with olive trees and Provençal shrubs. The house is on the left as you cross the courtyard and the pool (10 x 5 m) is up steps to your right. The pool (which can be heated on request) is accessed by steps right across one end, and it is surrounded by a terrace with six sunbeds. The whole garden area looks out towards a field which belongs to the property, and to vineyards and uninterrupted views of wooded hillsides beyond that, and also benefits from wonderful sunsets.
The accommodation is on three levels and is furnished beautifully with comfort in mind. There are soft sofas, white linen curtains and neutral fabrics and wall colours. The living room has French windows leading to a small rear patio with dining area and sun umbrella. One of the most attractive features of this lovely property is the large summer living room attached to the side of the house. It comes complete with full height glass doors which open completely towards the garden. This huge room is furnished with two large sofas and a dining table seating 8. The side walls are exposed stone, the ceilings are beamed and there is an impressive open fireplace. The four bedrooms and three modern bathrooms are on the first and second floors. Amenities include satellite TV, DVD, Video, CD player and ADSL internet access. There is a Weber barbecue, a boules court, and bicycles can be hired in Coustellet, 2 kms away.
