The charming, small island of Ile St. Louis is one of the most enchanting places to stay in Paris. With its mixture of handsome 17th century architecture, modern boutiques, narrow streets and magnificent views from its tree-lined quays, it remains delightfully unspoiled. Its main street, Rue St. Louis en l’Ile, which runs lengthwise through the island boasts a baroque church, boutiques, old-fashioned bistros and brasseries, food shops, a florist, bakeries and a wonderful cheese shop. Many of the main attraction in Paris are within an easy walk, including the Pompidou Centre, the Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Sainte Chapelle, the Latin Quarter and the Marais.
This recently renovated and elegant apartment is located on the first floor of a typical 17th century building. Architectually designed, with a clever use of space, original features have been retained such as the ancient stone wall with its exposed 17th century beams and the four metre high ceilings. Facing south, the apartment is bathed in light through two double floor to ceiling windows, framing the façade of the Baroque church, and beautifully adorned by heavy silk blue and gold curtains. The furniture is a tasteful mix of ancient refinement and modern comfort, including a Louis XV marble mantelpiece and Louis Philippe large round wooden dining table, seating four, a cosy leather sofa-bed and a desk. The original terracotta floors have oriental rugs and the overall effect is one of warmth and comfort.
The loft bedroom has a queen size bed and there is also a wash basin and WC on this level.
The living room has a comfortable sofa bed which coverts to a double bed.The bathroom, on the main level, has exposed beams, wood floor, and walls covered in natural shells and typical French lavender enamel tiles. Further amenities of this lovely apartment include lighting effects, central heating, flat-screen cable television (with main international channels), hi-fi stereo system with DVD and CD players, and telephone with answer machine.
