This fabulous and totally unique 16th century townhouse is situated in the Marais, some two blocks north of the Pompidou Centre and a few houses away from the oldest house in Paris. The oldest and most historical area in Paris, the Marais was an area of aristocratic residences in the 17th century, but then abandoned during the Revolution. In the 1960s, the area became a historical monument and more recently, it has become one of the most fashionable areas of Paris, with its many galleries, fashion boutiques, restaurants and cultural centres, its streets bustling with activity. The house is a short walk from the main shopping area on the Rue des Francs Bourgeois, the Picasso Museum, the Carnavalet Museum and the Place des Vosges. A little further, will bring you to the Ile St. Louis, the Ile de la Cité and Notre Dame, and the Louvre.
Entirely refurbished in 2001, the house has been featured in Architectural Digest magazine, and its great atmosphere and many historic features make it an excellent location for photography shoots. It is available for rent on a nightly bed and breakfast basis, or by the week for the entire house.
Entrance to the house is through a 17th century panelled corridor, leading to an entrance hall with glass floor and atrium above, which provides a wonderful natural light to this part of the building. The entrance hall also features two 17th century fireplaces and a 15th century stone floor. The bedrooms are beautiful, each with a very distinctive ambience, with period fireplaces, ancient stone or terracotta tiled floors and mahogany en-suite bathrooms. Several have velvet fabric covered walls, one with an elephant pattern. Another bed can be added to the single bedroom on request when the whole house is rented. Amenities include air conditioning, double glazed windows and a lift.
